Junkin, Thrifting and Shopping/ Three or More Tuesday

ThreeOrMoreTuesdayLogo

Thanks to Tam at The Gypsy’s Corner for  sponsoring Three or More Tuesday.  Please visit her blog to find more participants.

Last Thursday, Sharon, Karen and I took off for Malakoff to check out the shops there.

Our first stop was at Curious Goods, this is Sharon visiting with owner, Donna.

032

Old Hair Dryer and purple chair they had for sale.

033

Front of the store.

Right down the Street is Junk Palace, a darling shop, I bought 2 cloches in different sizes for $9.00.

002

034

035

Across the Street is Thrifty Sisters and Sharon got 12 etched glasses for 50 cents each and 2 cups for 50 cents each.  I got 4 cups for 50 cents each.

003

Of course they have a purple flower on them.

I had purchased 8 cups on another trip we took, so I now have 12 to serve soup for my bunko or bridge group. (or fruit).

We left there and headed to Lindy Mall….I loaded up there. Roy loves Waterford Crystal and I found this ships decanter.

004

005

A pair of Swarovski Candle sticks.

006

Love House by Blue Sky.

Wooden floats that are used on fishing nets.

Roy will use these at the lake.

007

Blue frame I will use at the lake.

008

Cane River Cuisine  from Natchitoches, Louisiana printed in 1974.

I love old and Cajun cookbooks.

009

Next we went to Antiques on Royall and then to a Mexican Restaurant for refreshments and lunch.

We then headed to Athens for a look-see at Winnie & Tulula’s  and The Reblooming of Sweet Pea’s. There are lots of things there to oooh and aweee over.

We then found a brochure on a Winery just outside Athens, so off we went.

It is Tara Vineyard & Winery , wow.

There is the most beautiful big old 2 story house built by the Murchison's,  it is called The Inn at Tara and they have 3 bedrooms  and  you can also rent the entire house.

010

We tasted some wine and met the owner , Patrick Pierce.

041

On Saturday night, they have a Bar-B-Que Buffet, live music and then you can stay in the Inn.  What a nice weekend.

We stopped in Palestine at the Star of Texas and visited 2 of the antique malls.

Headed home about 5 or 5:30, tired but laughing about the day, saying what we liked and disliked.

I probably left out something…a few extra pictures.

036

037

038

040

039

I know the last 4 were taken at Winnie & Tulula’s.

We had a great day and will be looking for some place to go.

Blue Monday/ I am Brain Dead!

download[2] Thanks to Smiling Sally for her continued sponsoring of this day.  Please drop by to see all the other participants.

I usually love Blue Monday, but I think the heat has finally gotten to me.  We have had weeks of temperatures over 100 everyday. My grass and plants are dying, even though I am watering day and night.  My goats are losing weight and they have plenty to eat.  Pilgrim the guard  dog has lost weight. Wow, we need 10 inches of rain and a break in the weather…. and I have nothing but 1 picture for Blue Monday and that really makes me Blue.

stressed

In Jasper on our Father’s Day weekend from Hell, I found Roy another painted horse for his collection and it is blue.

001

So this is my meager contribution to Blue Monday.

Happy Blue Monday to you and Purple Hugs.

Barbara

I have Metaed..but not Morphosised Yet!

MATAMORPHOSIS MONDAY

Thanks to Susan for sponsoring this great day, Metamorphosis Monday.  Check out the list at her blog, Between Naps on the Porch.

This is my first time to participate in Metamorphosis Monday, because I am not really very good at “ Metamorphosising”. I am in the process of redoing my bedroom , bathroom, hall and one bedroom.

I gave away all of bedding in our bedroom and I  am planning to remove wall paper, repaint the room, install plantation shutters and recover a chair. The carpet in the bedrooms, hall and living room is medium sage green.

053

In the Bathroom, I am going to remove wall paper and texture wall and paint and change towel and mat colors.

054

This is the door  from my bedroom to my bathroom.  It is an antique with antique knob and lock and the flowers were hand painted by my friend, Peggy Bloomer.

056

The hall will simply be repainted and so will the guest bedroom.

I want to go neutral for a change, but I can still accent with my purple.

050

051

My living room is a soft gold and the kitchen will remain light purple.

057

This is the guest bedroom I will not change.

060

063

This is the Mud Room done in Barn wood. I don’t know if you can tell, but there is an old metal roof extending out over the mud room.

061

062

These are pictures of the family room.

So Lady decorators and others, I am looking for a beautiful color.  The Bedroom furniture in both rooms is beautiful solid oak and the woodwork is white.

I welcome any and all suggestions on anything you have seen. I need to get started.

I feel unfinished with my bedroom in disarray.

Barbara

Foodie Friday Logo 2

Visit Gollum at Designs by Gollum to see the list of participates in this weeks Foodie Friday!

GREAT FINGER OR TEA SANDWICHES !

These are finger sandwiches that you can make several days in advance and freeze.

Creamy Date Nut Filling

5  packages of cream cheese softened(20 oz.)

1/2 tsp. salt

2 c chopped walnuts

2 2/3 c chopped dates

Blend until creamy; then add nuts and dates.  Makes enough filling for 100 tea sandwiches.

finger sand 2

Olive & Nut Filling

32 oz. cream cheese

3/4 chopped olives with red centers

2 c. chopped toasted ( in margarine) pecans

1/2 to 3/4 cream or milk

Whip cream cheese; add milk until soft enough to spread.  Fold in nuts and olives.  Spread on thin sliced bread.  Trim crust. Cut into finger or triangles.   Chill; covered until ready to serve.

Asparagus Logs

1 can asparagus (long stem)

butter

mayonnaise

salt and pepper

Good square white bread

Remove asparagus sears from can and spread on paper towels to drain for about 2 hours.

Remove crust from bread and spread each piece with butter and generously with mayo.

Put one spear diagonally on bread, sprinkle generously with S & P , then roll from the corner to make a tube and I cut them in half.

I put them on a plate and cover with foil, Tupperware doesn’t seem to work for some unknown reason.  Refrigerate for several hours and take out of fridge about 1/2 hour before serving.

6 Tbsp. sugar

4Tbsp. cornstarch

2 eggs

1/2 tsp salt

strawberries

CREAMY STRAWBERRY SANDWICHES

1 loaf white or wheat bread

16 oz. cream cheese, softened

1 box strawberries

additional strawberries

Dear Amy!

Dear Amy, I can only describe what happened yesterday thru scripture.  So many prayers and so much  love was sent to you and without love,we are nothing.  The Bible tells us:

I may have all knowledge and understand all secrets; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains—but if I have not love, I am nothing.  I may give away everything I have, and even give up my body to be burned—but if I have no love, this does me no good.  Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a records of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.   Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

Love is eternal. (1Corinthians 13:2-8)

Meanwhile these three remain: faith, hope and love; and the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13)

God bless and keep you, Amy.

We love you.

Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Fourth of July.
