I enjoy reading Norman Vincent Peale and I recently read this story I thought I would share with you.
Often times I have heard beauty in prayer. But one day my thoughts were directed to a gentleman who was in a meeting where folks were talking about various difficulties and problems.
The group called upon a man to pray that I knew had had much difficulty and was even then having a lot. So I was astonished by his prayer, He did not ask the Lord for a single thing except his presence, and he quickly affirmed this presence. The prayer was full of thanks giving and of affirmation of God’s loving kindness and goodness. It was an entrancing prayer: and I said to him that I shouldn’t comment on a prayer, but I was intrigued by the one I had just heard. I commented that I knew of his difficulties and yet he never ask God for anything.
Oh, He replied, “I ‘ve learned that the best way to pray is to thank God. He knows what I need. Then he added, why should I ask him for anything? Let me tell you all the wonderful things I have.
So if in our minds, we entertain thanksgiving, we manifest blessings.
I am sure most of you don’t forget, but just in case you do….. I am thinking of all the things I am thankful for.
