Catching up…….

Tuesday I drove to Port Arthur to our accountant’s office to take care of income taxes and then drove back to Houston to stay in Motel with my brother and sister-in-law.  My brother was having an arteriogram the next morning at St. Luke’s.  We received good news in the fact that he doesn’t need by pass surgery although his heart is weak.

I then got a hair cut and drove home to try and catch up with being gone 2 days.  Roy had come home from work and fed  Missy and Prissy Tuesday evening and Wed. morn and then left on a 3 day fishing trip.

Yes, I guess I forgot to tell you I had two baby goats in the playpen.  Prissy is a sister to Missy and had a neck problem, she couldn’t hold her head up, so she couldn’t suck from her mother.

By the time I got home Wednesday, the babies were starving and so were all the dogs and the ducks….then I fell over……..

Thursday started at 3:30…crying hungry babies and a ice chest full of shrimp I bought in Port Arthur on Tuesday. I count my shrimp when I put them up instead of using pounds.  I beheaded 1100 ( yes) shrimp and put them in freezer.

Gloria was here cleaning the house, so I took a stroll out to the pasture to check on expecting nannies.  Brightie was over the hill and she had a new baby and a big one.  He is a paint and beautiful. I think we will name him War Cloud.

I heard Mamma crying and found her in the old shed about to have a baby.  I left her and returned about thirty minutes later and she had three black and brown babies.  I went to get some hay to cover the dirty floor and when I came back there were four, three boys and 1 girl.  They were all doing great when I left them last night.  Only my sweet Mamma could take care of 4 babies.  Mamma and I are old friends, so I could help her take the sacks off her babies and I made sure their faces were clean.  The dogs also help, they will come and lick the babies.  I am anxious for daylight to check on them.

We now have 10 babies and still have 3 or 4 expecting nannies.  This is a wonderful time on the ranch.  New babies are so much fun to watch. They are part of God’s world and I treasure them.

Yes, my new camera has completely quit working and I took pictures with my very old one and there is no program to open them, I am still trying.

Well, hope you were not bored with my posting today, guess I need to start a new day ….Purple Goat Lady and her 10 new Babies..the care and feeding of baby goats. The only problem I would be the only one to participate.

Going to try and find way to open yesterdays pictures.

Have a great day and if you have any spare time, drop in and hold or feed a baby goat.

You will be amazed how they touch your heart.

See Y’all

Mexican Casserole

2 pounds ground chuck

1 onion chopped

One 30 –32 ounce can of tomato sauce

1 tablespoon of chili powder

2 packages of taco seasoning

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

One 14 ounce can of whole kernel corn including the liquid

4 cups cooked rice

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese or mexican cheese

4 slices of bacon, partially cooked

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Heat a skillet and add meat and chopped onion, cook over high heat until meat has very little pink remaining in it.

Add tomato sauce, corn with liquid, chili powder, taco seasoning, white pepper and garlic powder and heat until the mixture begins to simmer

Stir in the cooked rice and then pour this into 9x13 baking pan.

Cover the casserole with cheese and lay the bacon strips over all

Cover the casserole for the first 15 minutes of baking time and then uncover and bake 15 more minutes or until the cheese is melted and the ingredients are thoroughly heated.

This Casserole has a good “down –home” flavor, is hearty and uses ingredients most people have in their pantry at home.

This is a great casserole to take with you to pot luck or barbeque.  Serves 8.

Hope you enjoy this casserole.

A Baby Girl in the Playpen

Yesterday as I started through the gate to feed Pilgrim and Mary, I was met with the scene of Snowball giving or had just given birth to three babies.020

There were 2 brown babies and one with a white body and a brown head.  Two are girls and one is a boy.

We don’t often have a nanny give birth to three and many times one is so small it can’t make it on its own.

I noticed immediately that the little brown headed girl was in serious trouble, she was breathing hard and could not stand up.021

They were all tiny babies, but she was very tiny and I knew she couldn’t make it without help.  So the mother instinct kicks in and I get the colostrums (which they must have in first 12 plus hours to survive) and after several ounces, she is recovering nicely.

This  morning she can get up by herself and stand, still a little weak on walking.  I will try this morning to reunite her with her mother?022

024

These are the other two.

023

Mom and two babies.

While we were gone, Susie had 2 little girls and they are darling and running and playing.

026

We have about two or three nannies that appear to be ready to give birth, but they can fool me for a week or two sometimes.

Well, live goes on at the Bar H and you have to run to keep up.

I named by house guest Sweet Baby, I  hope her mother takes her back, otherwise I am the mama and that makes it hard on the little goat.  They need to be in the pasture with the other goats.

Can’t wait for daylight to see if there are any new ones.  When one goat starts….the other pregnant nannies are usually not far behind.

Will keep you posted………

It looks Beautiful, It sounds Beautiful and It is Beautiful!

Ladies, Gentlemen, Friends and Foe it is raining in Jewett America on the Bar H Ranch.

Yesterday Roy and I just sat and watched it rain and it is raining as I type this post. I don’t think it will be 10 inches, but we are thanking God for whatever he sends us.

I also forgot yesterday to thank everyone who came by and commented on Blue Monday.  I appreciated your comments about little War Blanket.

Speaking of Goats, I took some pictures Monday after I fed them.

017

Meet Mama and one of the daughters. Mama will always go for a scratch between the horns.

018

This is the way to eat, get in the bucket and lay down, then no one else can get your food.

019

020

These two pictures are of Susie, as you can see she is expecting and I think maybe a couple of weeks.

021

Princess is also pregnant, but not as far along as Susie.

022

The little goat in the middle is our up and coming Billy (in a year or a little more).  The light tan/cream goat is his mother and she gives the best and biggest babies you have.

023

This is Nunnie too, her ears like her mother’s stay in that position.  Her mother is the Flying Nun.

024

Feeding time.

026

Isn’t she darling..I haven’t named her yet, looking for suggestions.  She is black headed, some on the neck and tip of tail, white body and brown and black legs and has the cutest little face.

028

Pilgrim watching me, making sure I don’t hurt one of his goats.

030

Last, here come some of the ducks look for their dinner.

We have lots of pregnant nannies, but it will be a couple of months before they deliver, which is great, the weather will be warmer  and more stable.

Hope you enjoyed a trip to the pasture to meet a few of my goats.  I love my nannies and babies, but sometimes it is hard to love the Billy.  They are very independent.  I guess that is the way it should be.

Have a blessed day and if you need rain, I hope it is raining at your house.

See Y’all

A trip to Dallas!

Yesterday my friend Karen needed some extensive dental work, so I went along to drive her home.  Well, she is a tough middle aged nut and she didn’t have any pain. She ended driving up there and back!

What do you do then in Dallas,Texas (especially when you live out in the country), you have lunch at a nice restaurant and shop a little.  We had lunch at the Grand Luxe Cafe, boy what a lunch.  It started with crab cakes then I had a Southwestern salad with honey lime vingerette, it was excellent.  Don’t Leave Yet…..If you wanted dessert, you had to tell them 30 minutes ahead because they cook it to order.  Karen ordered Beignets and they brought out 8 hot wonderful ones with three kinds of sauce, chocolate, raspberry and  one with just a touch of  whiskey.  Boy, was I sorry I had eaten a crab cake and a salad even though they were both good.  Never the less I managed to devour Two of them and brought 2 home for dinner.

Well, now we are ready to shop. Our first stop was the Container Store and I plan to get organized around here.011

Wire baskets to hold onions and potatoes.

012

For brooms and mops….

013

Ironing board and iron….

014

Six bottle wine rack to hold wine that does not fix in wine cooler.

Now all I need is for Roy to come home and start putting all this wonderful stuff on the walls, etc.

Karen is looking for western furniture so we started at The Arrangement.  Let me say this….to call this store upper-end would be an insult. It is upper- upper!  They had just gotten in some new bedding and the least expensive one I saw was $4, 500.00.  Yep, I call that upper-upper.  I quickly steered her out of there and after a couple more stores,  we ended up at the Old El Paso Imports, furniture out of Mexico.

They let me take pictures.

005

006

007

I liked this white fireplace mantle in the background.

008

They had lots of colorful loveseats like this one.

009

I could see this metal table painted and maybe inlay the top with tile or ?

015

I bought one of these wooden stands, they came in all colors, this one is a light lime green.  I think I will use it on my breakfast table.

Now it is time to go home, we got up at 3:30  and headed to Dallas about 4:45---Yes AM--- and now I am tired and we still have about a 2 1/2 hour drive and then I have hungry dogs, goats and ducks waiting for me.

Fun Day, but I am getting older with each trip.

See Y’all
