Goat Meat!

I read that to be a successful blogger, you need to have a plan when you started out.  I got side tracked…..so here is my first real on target post.

Raising goats in the US has quickly become big business.  The demand in this country for goat meat is so high that producers can’t raise enough.

Most of the meat consumed in this country is imported from New Zealand or Australia.  63% of red meat consumed  world wide is goat.  The demand in this country comes mostly from ethnic groups, but that is slowly changing.  At the present time, goat meat is higher per pound that beef.

Why chevon(goat meat)?  It is low fat, good tasting and an alternative to chicken or fish.  Most people prefer meat from a goat that is at least 75% Boer…..this changes the flavor of the meat.

The Boer goat is considered the “meat goat”.  They were developed in South Africa for their meat and hardiness.

DON’T SHY AWAY FROM GOAT MEAT!  If cooked properly, it is delicious.  It is usually grilled.  Recently there have been news articles about “fancy” restaurants in New York, Chicago, etc serving chevon.

Come on over to our little goat ranch and we will grill a goat for you, you will be surprised.

This is a picture of a standard Boer goat, but there are other colored goats that are 100% Boer.  Paints are becoming very popular.

Well, I hope you enjoyed your first lesson about goats.

Hi Barbara

First, after seeing those beautiful animals, I can't imagine eating goat meat. Of course, I don't look at pictures of cows, chickens and pigs often either. LOL Seriously though, those goats are so beautiful.

Second, I would love to win your beautiful pink heart bracelet. I'm a breast cancer survivor so, of course, I love (heart) pink. Please enter my name for the giveaway. If I win it, I will proudly wear it, especially on the days I do walks for breast cancer.

Hugs!
Kat

Good morning and thanks so much for stopping by my place. I hope you will come by any time.
Like you, I have strange sleep habits, hence this 3:30 am comment. lol
Your goats are just beautiful...and the little ones so cute. I've never had goat meat that I was aware of, but, if ever I get the chance, I would sure try it.
Sounds like you have such fun with your Bunko groups. My daughter belongs to a club but I've not joined one as yet. I do fill in for her group and can see how fun it is. And, the food is DELICIOUS...seems everyone trys to outdo the other and, yummy! And good wines....maybe I am talking myself into joining!! *smile..
I live in West Texas...Texas Tech territory! We have a little ice and it was so cold yesterday ...think it is supposed to get in the 50's today, tho.
I am adding you to my blog roll and I would love to be added to your giveaway list. My best friend is a breast cancer survivor and I would give the braclet to her, with pride.
So glad to have you in Blogland and I hope you have a great time with it....

Hi, Barbara, so sorry you can't make it to Nashville this time. I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone.

That is so interesting about the goats. I don't think I've ever had goat meat & I'm with Kat, it would be so hard to kill one of those cute little things to eat. I could not get attached to them & then eat them! I guess you get used to it.

I'll add you to my blogroll too!

My husband told me once that I was having deer meat and found out it was goat meat instead.
He knew I wouldn't eat it if I knew. He was right. But, I did eat it and it was good.
Goat meat is very popular around these parts.
Good post.

Hi, Barbara. I've never had goat meat, but I do like goat cheese. I always enjoy seeing the goats around in the TX Hill Country. Now I can see them and think of you. :-)

Hi Barbara,
I just found your blog and really enjoyed reading about your goats. A few years back my husband and I went to look at ranch to buy and it was a goat ranch, I have never seen so many goats in my life, they even had a bathroom setup for the newborns to wash and feed them.(We didn't by the ranch the house needed so much work).
My daughter had a goat for a short time and she named it of course Billy "Billy Goat" LOL. Well I will be back to visit you again. Come by and visit me on my blog any time.
Have a great day,
Elizabeth
P.S. Please enter me into your drawing for the lovely pink heart bracelet you made.
